BANCA COMMERCIALE ITALIANA (BCI) (now Intesa Sanpaolo) was founded in Milan in 1894 and is now one of Italy’s premier banking institutions. The bank both directly and through other group companies, carries out a wide range of banking and financial activities and is known for its international vocation, technological innovation and the quality of its management method. In 1994 BCI was privatised and at the end of 1996 its group had a network of over 1300 branches and a presence in 44 countries. The BCI shareholding is held through Intesa Holding International S.A.
